LSU baseball’s first portal addition is Gonzaga right-hander Landon Hood. Hood was excellent for the Bulldogs last season and was recognized as the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year.
Hood made 16 appearances for Gonzaga, four starts and went 3-1 with five saves and had the lowest ERA on the team at 2.48. Hood also struck out 78 in 54.1 innings. Hood only allowed three earned runs during the months of April and May.
Kendall Rogers of D1 Baseball first reported the news that Hood is headed to LSU. He’s 6-3, 200 pounds and has a fastball that touches 96 miles per hour.
Baseball America recently wrote that Hood has intriguing long-term upside. Hood is described as athletic and a strike-thrower.
Hood was outstanding in high school, and it’s a bit surprising he didn’t end up at Power 4 School to start his college career. He was named the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona after his senior season at Canyon View High School.
What is not known is if LSU coach Jay Johnson and pitching coach Nate Yes
LSU has also expressed interest in Thibodaux’s Brody Trosclair, who was the Southland Freshman of the Year at Northwestern State. But his season was cut short because of an elbow injury that required surgery.
It’s expected he will not be able to pitch until March.
The left-hander made 10 appearances at Northwestern State, four starts and went 5-1 with a 1.89 ERA and struck out in 55 in 38 innings.
Trosclair made an unofficial visit on Tuesday. But other SEC schools are interested. He reportedly visited Florida yesterday and still plans to visit Tennessee, Auburn and Ole Miss.
