The LSU Tigers got blanked in their regional opener against Gonzaga, and they've been hitting ever since.

Set up by a walk-off 6-5 win over Central Connecticut on Saturday, the Tigers took control early and never looked back in their rematch with the Bulldogs. LSU jumped ahead with a four-run first inning to erase an early 2-0 deficit, and pushed their lead to 8-3 by the third inning.

LSU chased Gonzaga starter Alec Gomez after just three outs and 6 earned runs, while Tigers starter AJ Labas went eight strong innings to save the bullpen ahead of a matchup with unbeaten Oregon set for 9 p.m. Sunday.

"It was just go out there and fill up the zone like I know how to and just make them put the ball in play, like I have all year," said Labas, who threw 123 pitches and notched a career-high 8 strikeouts. " ... We're just very happy about this win and it took everyone to do it."

Senior Trent Vietmeier pitched a scoreless 9th inning to finish off the result and also took the mound for the first inning against Oregon in the nightcap. Centerfielder Giovanni DiGiacomo was out, however, after a hamstring injury in the 4th inning. He was replaced in centerfield by Drew Bianco, with Zach Arnold taking over at second base against Oregon. Freshman Brody Drost got the start at designated hitter.
