LSU was held to two hits in a 2-0 loss to Ole Miss. The two hits came from the bottom of the order, Cade Arrambide and Chris Stanfield. Derek Curiel, Jared Jones and Jake Brown each struck out twice.
Offensive struggles: LSU had just two hits in its last 15 innings at Hoover.
“Some guys expanded the zone, some guys missed their pitch, some guys hit beneath the ball, and you can’t be beneath the ball when that guy is running the ball up there 97 miles per hour, I think varies guy by guy,” Coach Jay Johnson said. “The most important thing is to stay positive, stay with it, be very detailed and very task oriented with each one of them,” said Johnson.
Give some credit to Ole Miss, they’ve allowed just three runs in three games at the SEC Tournament.
In 17 games away from Alex Box Stadium since the start of conference play, the Tigers are averaging four runs a game.
I’m sure over the next two weeks, LSU’s offense will look fine at Alex Box Stadium, but can they generate enough offense in Omaha?
LSU has enough pitching to win it all: Good work Saturday from Jaden Noot, Chase Shores, and Jacob Mayers. One of the reasons Johnson used both Kade Anderson and Anthony Eyanson on Friday was to give others a chance to pitch in a championship atmosphere.
Shores hit 102 mph on the radar gun a couple of times, Mayers struck out four in 2.1 innings pitched. I’ve been waiting for Mayers to become more of a factor. Noot got the start and he should start the regional opener, but Coach Jay Johnson may elect to go with Kade Anderson. He pitched Paul Skenes in a regional opener, so will he stick with that strategy?
Up Next: The NCAA Tournament bracket comes out at 11 AM on Monday. LSU should be a Top 8 National Seed.
