A big sendoff for the LSU Fighting Tigers baseball team as they head to Omaha for their 19th College World Series. Fans are invited to Alex Box Stadium to see the team off.
It has been a while since the Tigers paid a visit to Charles Schwab Field.
"LSU, back in Omaha for the first time in six years, so there's a lot of excitement," said Bill Franques with LSU Athletic. "The Tigers are going for their seventh national championship."
Franques says the connection between the team and LSU fans runs deep, even for college sports. He says the players from Louisiana are used to it, but for the ones who didn't grow up with it, it is something else.
"Players who come from out of state, from places like California and Texas and Arizona, they are just overwhelmed by the fan support," Franques said. "I know the players really appreciate the fans."
The send-off will take place 9 a.m. outside of Alex Box Stadium near Gate 1. Fans coming to campus for the send-off may park in the Hall of Fame lot on the third base side of the stadium.
