LSU is firmly in the discussion when it comes to projecting the field for the first ever 12 team playoff. The first college football playoff rankings are released on November 5th.
LSU’s 6-1 record has the Tigers as a projected 8 to 10 seed and there are also a few projections that leave the Bayou Bengals out of the playoff.
LSU Coach Brian Kelly says they are not breaking down projected brackets, instead they’ll continue to strive for consistency which has been their focus during their current six game winning streak.
“Whether it’s a four-team, 8-team, 12-team playoff that really doesn’t come into the equation, as much as how we prepare consistently that will be the focus,” Kelly said. “Are we going to prepare as well as last week and if we do then we will perform equal to that?”
The Tigers are receiving praise for beating Ole Miss in overtime and winning in convincing fashion over the Hogs. It’s a much different narrative than what LSU experienced after the season opening loss to USC.
“What’s really important is what you can control and what people write about you, what they say about you, you can’t control it, control the controllables, and for us, it’s about our preparation, if we do a really good job with our preparation than good things usually happen, Kelly said.
A big part of LSU’s preparation this week will be on the Texas A&M’s run game, which ranks 13th in the country, averaging 219 yards a game.
But the Tigers are ranked 33rd in the country in rush defense, allowing 115 yards a game. LSU is coming off a game in which it held Arkansas to 38 yards rushing.
LSU has allowed several long rushing touchdowns this season, but the Tigers were consistent on defense this past Saturday and the Hogs longest rush was just 13 yards.
