The ninth ranked LSU women’s basketball team set a school record Sunday by scoring 106 points in an SEC game as the Lady Tigers cruised to a 106-66 win over Florida.

Six players scored in double figures led by Hailey Van Lith, who rebounded from a four-point performance in a loss to Mississippi State by scoring a season-high 21 points.

Van Lith says she decided to be herself on Sunday.

“My motto for this year has been take one step every day, sometimes I have bad games, but the next day I’m going to take another step and I’m going to come to practice and hopefully have a great practice, it’s hard, but that’s why I came here, I wanted to be challenged, I wanted to be pushed and I’m getting what I asked for so I can’t complain,” said Van Lith.

Hard to complain with anything the Lady Tigers did on Sunday as they will use the month of February to build momentum towards March.

LSU had some extra time to prepare of for Sunday’s game as they had five games between games and Coach Kim Mulkey had a new wrinkle.

Back-up point guard Last-Tear Poa shared more of the backcourt with Van Lith. It allowed Van Lith to slide over to shooting guard, the position where she averaged 20 points a game at Louisville last year.

Poa also responded by scoring nine points and dishing out four assists. The nine points were the most she’s scored in an SEC game this year and Mulkey said after the game Poa played more like how she did last year.

Freshman Mikaylah Williams broke out of her mini shooting slump as she went 9-for-12 from the field with 21 points. Aneesah Morrow had 18 points and 20 rebounds, while Angel Reese had 14 points, ten rebounds and six assists.

It was a get-well game for LSU as the Lady Tigers took advantage of playing a struggling Florida team who left Baton Rouge with 11-9 record, 2-6 in the SEC.

This week, LSU (19-4, 6-3) will travel to 4-4 Vanderbilt on Thursday and host 4-4 Alabama on February 11th.
