
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse for the LSU men’s basketball team, they suffer a gut-wrenching defeat on Saturday night in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
LSU led by 11 points with three minutes to go, but figured out a way to lose 72-70.
Turnovers have been a problem for LSU, but they only had 10 against the Rebels, however they could not handle the Rebels pressure down the stretch and turned it over three times in the final three minutes.
The game began to unravel with just over five minutes left when Corey Chest missed a dunk. Then Chest committed a technical foul when he slapped the ball away from an Ole Mis player after committing a personal foul.
The Rebels made four straight free throws and then it was game on from there and the Tigers crumbled down the stretch.
Speaking of free throws, LSU went 12-of-25 from the free throw line. Chest was 1-of-6 at the line.
Ole Miss won the game with a tip-in just before the buzzer. Dre Davis tipped it in and finished with a game-high 22 points.
LSU was led by Cam Carter, who hit four 3-pointers and had 16 points. Damion Collins had an SEC high 15 points.
The Tigers have lost six straight, and they are now 1-9 in the SEC, 12-11 overall.
LSU goes back on the road this week as they are in Bud Walton Arena against Arkansas on Wednesday night and then Oklahoma on Saturday, February 15.
After a game like this, baseball season can’t get here soon enough as opening day is February 14th.
