New Orleans Saints rookie wide receiver Brock Rechsteiner is facing a 6-game suspension before he ever steps onto the field for an NFL regular season game.

The suspension was issued officially on the NFL transaction wire on Thursday, though the reason for the ban was unspecified. Rechsteiner will be eligible to participate in all offseason activities and preseason games, with the suspension taking effect after cutdown day.

Rechsteiner, who played collegiately at Jacksonville State, joined the Saints after a tryout during rookie minicamp and was signed to the 90-man roster. He has been active throughout each of the first seven training camp practices, primarily working with the third-team offense.

Rechsteiner, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, has been a social media darling during his short stint with the Saints, but he faces an uphill battle to make the roster in a crowded WR room that already features Chris Olave and Devaughn Vele along with a trio of drafted rookie WRs in Jordyn Tyson, Bryce Lance and Barion Brown.

The Saints are off on Friday but will return to practice on Saturday.
