Since starting the season 8-0, the Tigers are 6-7 and have not played well. The people who follow college baseball have noticed and the Tigers are no longer ranked in any of the major college baseball polls.
It’s the first time since April of 2024 that LSU has not been ranked. The Tigers were knocked out of the rankings that year after losing a series to Vanderbilt at home.
This time it’s a series loss to Vanderbilt plus struggles against non-conference teams that have caused the Tigers to fall out of the rankings.
The numbers support that LSU is not a good team right now.
LSU is ranked 11th in the SEC in hitting with a team average of .288. The Tigers took advantage of an injury depleted Vanderbilt pitching staff, plus good hitting conditions to boost their average up in Nashville.
LSU is dead last in the SEC in pitching with a team ERA of 5.24. Walks have been a big problem. The Tigers have walked 93 hitters, third highest in the SEC.
LSU is 16th in the SEC in fielding. Hard to believe the Tigers have fallen this far in the field, after having an elite defense last season.
The Tigers have a chance to turn their season around over the next two weeks. LSU begins a nine-game homestand on Tuesday against Grambling State.
