LSU player faints during White House visit; she's fine, coach says

A celebratory visit to the White House took a bizarre turn on Friday, with a member of the team appearing to collapse during President Joe Biden's remarks.

LSU head coach Kim Mulkey confirmed that player was forward Sa'Miyah Smith, and she was being checked on by doctors.

“As you can see, we leave our mark where we go. ... Sa’Myah is fine, I’ll assure you of that” Mulkey said, noting that Smith was more embarrassed than anything, adding that she didn’t want to leave but was going to be checked out by doctors.

The moment came after about 15 minutes of speeches from Biden, first lady Jill Biden and VP Kamala Harris. Biden was midway through informing LSU forward Angel Reese that her cousin, UConn's Jordan Hawkins, had challenged her to a game of 1-on-1. There were a handful of confused moments, during which you could hear someone say "help, help, help," as the crowd dispersed and Smith was attended to.

When the event resumed, Biden notes that Smith wasn't the first person to fall on that stage.

The Tigers were at the White House to be feted, along with UConn, after their first ever NCAA Tournament title. The visit was Mulkey's fifth.
