We did not see a flurry of early commitments on the first day of the opening of the transfer portal window. But based on multiple reports, the Tigers are in on some of the best players that have entered the portal.
Including the number one player in the portal according to ESPN. That would be former Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports the dual-threat quarterback will visit Texas Tech and LSU.
ESPN’s Max Olson expects an expensive bidding war between the Tigers and Red Raiders, who have significant NIL resources thanks to billionaire booster Cody Campbell.
Sorsby began his college career at Indiana and flourished at Cincinnati after transferring to the Bearcats. Sorsby, who has one year of eligibility left, has thrown for 7,208 yards and 60 touchdowns in his career.
He can also run, rushing for 580 yards this season.
But Sorsby is not the only quarterback LSU is recruiting out of the transfer portal. On3.com’s Pete Nakos reports that LSU is among the finalists for Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt.
Miami and Oregon are the other potential landing spots for Leavitt, who helped the Sun Devils win the Big 12 Conference Championship in 2024, but injuries slowed him and ASU down this season.
Leavitt’s rumored price tag is four-million dollars. He’ll reportedly spend Saturday in Lexington visiting with new Kentucky head coach Will Stein. Remember the Wildcats’ new offensive coordinator is former LSU OC Joe Sloan.
What about Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss? It’s believed Chambliss wants to play for Lane Kiffin at LSU. He was outstanding against Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, and he’s seeking an additional year of eligibility, but Thamel is reporting that the NCAA might not grant Chambliss a medical redshirt waiver.
Chambliss is arguing that he did not play in 2022 at Ferris State because of persistent respiratory issues due to tonsillitis.
LSU also needs a big-time receiver. Former Michigan State receiver Nick Marsh has scheduled visits with Indiana and Notre Dame, but Josh Newberg of On3.com says LSU is also in the mix.
Marsh caught 100 passes for 1,311 yards and 9 touchdowns in two seasons for the Spartans.
LSU has also been connected to one of the top defensive players in the portal, former Penn State defensive end Chaz Coleman. Newberg is reporting that Tennessee and LSU are battling for the top edge rusher in the portal.
Coleman just completed his freshman season at Penn State. He missed several games with an undisclosed injury and finished with just one sack. But his upside is considered enormous.
