LSU to consider starting Max Johnson at Florida

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said the Tigers will “give consideration” to starting true freshman Max Johnson this Saturday.

“I thought Max played really well (against Alabama),” Orgeron said. “I thought also TJ did some things. That's something we're going to give consideration for this week.”

Johnson is coming off of what Orgeron called his best game where he completed 11 of 17 passes for 110 yards.

“I thought he was crisp,” he said. “I thought he went through his progression well. His ball came out very well, threw very catchable balls. He can scramble, run. I think he's tough. He's a hard worker. So is TJ I think both of those guys are very similar. I thought Max played his best game.”

On the season he’s thrown for 395 yards and two touchdowns while coming in to relieve Finley who's started LSU's last five games. LSU’s players said they are confident in both Johnson and Finley.

“I believe in either one of those guys, TJ or Max,” LSU center Liam Shanahan said. “They’re both young players. They are freshmen. They are going to make mistakes but either way I believe in both of them.”
