LSU’s Kim Mulkey didn’t hold back Saturday afternoon when discussing a soon to be published Washington Post article on the Hall of Fame Coach.

News of extensive became public on Friday afternoon when Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde said on the social medial platform “X” that he was hearing about a Washington Post story in the works on Mulkey, potentially next week. Forde said wagons being circled, etc.

Mulkey said at a press conference to preview her second-round matchup against Middle Tennessee that a Washington Post reporter has been trying to interview her for two years. She said on Tuesday the reporter provided LSU with more than a dozen questions that he wanted answered by Thursday.

Mulkey said this was a ridiculous deadline that LSU could not keep, and she said it was a blatant attempt to distract the Lady Tigers and the reporter knew she did not have time to comment.

Mulkey said she will not talk to this reporter, because she claims he wrote a hit job on LSU football coach Brian Kelly two years ago.

Kent Babb wrote a story in January 2022 entitled, “In Baton Rouge, there’s a $100 million football coach and everyone else.”

The article discussed Kelly’s huge salary in a state that has many people struggling financially.

Mulkey said the reporter has tried to trick former assistant coaches in getting them to talk. She also said many of her former players have been contacted by this reporter and were told they can remain anonymous if they say something negative about her.

“This is exactly why people don’t trust journalists and the media anymore,” Mulkey said. “It’s these kinds of sleazy tactics and hatchet jobs that people are tired of it. I’m fed up, and I’m not going to let the Washington Post attack this university, this awesome team or without a fight.”

Mulkey went on to say she’s hired the best defamation law firm in the country and threatened to sue the Washington Post if they publish a false story about her.

“Not many people are in a position to hold these kinds of journalists accountable, but I am, and I’ll do it.”

Mulkey, who normally does not give opening statements at press conferences, is not expected to comment anymore on this yet to be published story.

WBRZ-TV’s Michael Cauble asked Mulkey at the end of Saturday’s press conference if she would be willing to comment about her current relationship with her players.

“You better ask them, but I think they love me,” Mulkey said.
