LSU safety Greg Brooks' brain tumor turned out to be a rare form of cancer known as medulloblastoma, Brooks' family, the school, and Our Lady of the Lake Health announced today.

"For the last three weeks, Greg has been recovering from an extensive surgery to remove a brain tumor that was located between his cerebellum and brainstem," said Catherine O’Neal, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Our Lady of the Lake Health. "The surgery was successful in removing the tumor, and there is no evidence that the cancer has spread."

The surgery had an impact on Brooks' speech and ability to communicate, Dr. O'Neal said, and he faces months of intensive rehab.

To help cover expenses resulting from his illness, The Tiger Athletic Foundation has launched The Greg Brooks Victory Fund.

Brooks, a fifth-year senior from Harvey, attended West Jefferson High and went on to earn three letters at the University of Arkansas, before transferring to LSU prior to the 2022 season. He started 13 games that year and helped LSU win the 2023 Citrus Bowl.

This season, he was voted team captain and started the Tigers' first two games.
