Watch: Garrett Nussmeier takes over at QB for LSU, finds Jack Bech for thrilling TD

As Ed Orgeron explained earlier in the week, Max Johnson got the start against Arkansas. After all, he is the starter. But then it'd be anyone's ball-game.

After a pair of drives that ended in LSU punts, the freshman took over at quarterback and provided a similar "spark" to what was seen when he entered late against Ole Miss. Nussmeier, also the son of a former NFL quarterback, led a drive for a Cade York field goal, cementing his place in the game.

But it was what came on the next drive that really stood out. Facing heavy pressure, Nussmeier takes a Joe Burrow-esque juke step in before spinning away from trouble. He then resets against his body and heaves the ball 29 yards and to the back of the end zone, where fellow freshman Jack Bech had the toe-tapping grab ready.

Nussmeier remained in the game for the next few drives, even with one ending on a bad wildcat snap that running back Ty Davis-Price couldn't handle. Orgeron said whomever played the best would finish the game and potentially start the rest of the season, even if it burns the freshman's chances to redshirt.

Based on the early returns, the latter scenario could very well be the case. The Tigers were ahead 10-3 late in the first half.
