What LSU's defense will look like under Daronte Jones

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron introduced the Tigers' new defensive coordinator Daronte Jones as well as new linebackers and defensive line coaches Blake Baker and Andre Carter.

Jones is tasked with helping LSU's defense improve after the Tigers allowed over 30 points per game.

In order to do that, Jones said LSU's focus on defense will be "players first, scheme second."

"We want to put our guys in the best position to make plays," he said. "We want to minimize error, Make sure we are over communicating, have an attacking style defense where we can dictate the terms and play fast."

The former Vikings assistant mentioned several times that the Tigers have a very talented roster and wants to highlight those players.

"We're going to give them some techniques and fundamentals and we're going to
harp on that," he said.

Jones said LSU will continue to be based out of a 4-3. The Tigers switched from a 3-4 ahead of the 2020 season and Jones said the 4-3 will allow the Tigers to highlight their talented defensive ends like Ali Gaye and Andre Anthony.

Jones added that that the biggest key for LSU's defense will be to play "as violent as possible."

"That's the aggressive mindset that we want to set forth going forward," Jones said.
