The sports community and Louisiana have lost a legend this week, with longtime reporter and commentator Ed Daniels passing away at the age of 67 due to complications stemming from a cardiac incident late last month.

Daniels' decorated career in Louisiana spanned five decades, the past 33 of which has been as the Sports Director at WGNO-TV where he chronicled the most important sports stories throughout Louisiana and helped revolutionize high school sports coverage throughout the region.

Daniels was in Irvine, California to cover Saints training camp at the time of his cardiac event and spent nearly two weeks in a Los Angeles-area hospital before being flown back to Louisiana, with Saints owner Gayle Benson covering the costs.

Never afraid to ask difficult questions, Daniels was well known for his fearless approach to interviewing and care for all those he encountered on his various beats. An outpouring of remembrances flowed quickly after news broke on Friday, including from the Saints and Pelicans organization, several of which can be seen below.

Daniels, who was three times named Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association, was a graduate of Rummel High and earned a degree from Loyola University in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Robin, as well as five children and fiver grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
