The New Orleans Pelicans have signed a broadcast agreement with the owners of WVUE-TV that will vastly expand their television audience for at least 10 games this season.
On Saturday, Pelicans officials and Gray Television, Inc., announced a sports rights deal that will make 10 Pelicans games available over the air on WVUE starting with the January 12 game at Denver. In addition, those games will be simulcast on Gray-owned stations in Louisiana, Mississippi, and in Mobile. This agreement, Pelicans officials say, will make the team's games available to more than three million households in seven different states.
Gray says it will seek distribution agreements for the Pelicans broadcasts with stations Lafayette and in other Gulf South markets in which it does not own stations.
“The Pelicans welcome the opportunity to partner with Gray Television in this 10-game deal that will provide over-the-air viewing access to Pelicans games for more than 3 million households and over seven million people across the Gulf South region,” said New Orleans Pelicans President Dennis Lauscha said in a statement.
The Pelicans games that will be broadcast on over-the-air TV are as follows:
January 12--at Denver
January 19--at Phoenix
February 9--at Los Angeles Lakers
February 27--at New York
March 1--vs. Indiana
March 22--at Miami
March 26--vs. Oklahoma City
April 7--at Phoenix
April 12--at Golden State
10th game to be determined.
