Pelican State Prep Football Preview: Week 9

Ian Auzenne/WWL

The penultimate week of the 2026 LHSAA prep football season is here, and this week, a number of titans in Louisiana high school football will collide.

The week's most anticipated matchup pits the top two teams in Class 5A against each other. Edna Karr and St. Augustine will meet in a rematch of last year's Division I-Select state championship game. Karr brings a 36-game winning streak into this contest, while St. Augustine looks to prevent a repeat of last year's regular season game in which Karr snapped its season-opening win streak. That game is scheduled for Saturday night at Morris F. X. Jeff Stadium.

Destrehan travels to Zachary for a game that could be a preview of what's to come in the Division I-Non-Select playoffs. Destrehan is also riding an eight-game win streak to start the year, while Zachary is looking for its second straight win.

Mandeville and Northshore will play in a game that will likely decide who will be the District 6-5A champion. Alexandria, one of the hottest teams in the state, will take on defending Division I-Non-Select state champ Ouachita Parish.

In another potential district title game, St. Charles will take on Lutcher in a battle between two teams seeking a return to the Superdome.

We preview all of these games and many others going on around the state in this week's edition of the Pelican State Prep Football Preview.
