8 at #28: Who could be on the board for the Saints in rd. 1 of the NFL draft?

DRAFT DAY is coming, DRAFT DAY is coming! The Saints own 8 picks in the 3 day event which kicks-off April 29th in Cleveland, Ohio. A new Drew Brees-less era begins for the Black & Gold and it is wild to think that QB isn’t the team’s biggest need!?

Coach Payton has praised the play of Taysom Hill and Jameis Winston and appears content with them duking it out in training camp for the job.  So, unless there is a guy he is  ENAMORED with to make a move for, why draft a tablet holder in the first round when there are other glaring needs for a roster that should remain a playoff contender?

Predicting who will be the pick is tough since the Saints are slated to go on the clock at #28 on opening night.   But, coming up with a “cloud” of prospects that could be around is a little easier. Here are 8 guys on the defensive side of the ball who could come and contribute week one if still on the board.

Linebacker

Zaven Collins, Tulsa

Jamin Davis, Kentucky

Cornerback

Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech

Greg Newsome II, Northwestern

Eric Stokes, Georgia

Asante Samuel Jr., Florida State

Defensive end

Azeez Ojulari, Georgia

Jayson Oweh, Penn State
