The Saints were back outside for most of Wednesday’s training camp practice, but lightning and rain forced the Saints team inside for the final portion. We go to see Tre’Quan Smith present, which is a positive since the wide receiver has been M.I.A since leaving practice early last Tuesday. Smith was not in uniform, just watching the session in street clothes.

Today’s Black & Gold gris gris affected two players. Receiver Ty Montgomery was carted-off the field, but was able to walk into the facility with trainers. Later on, defensive tackle Malcolm Roach left early after the team had moved indoors.

Also, not present for today’s workout were kicker Wil Lutz, linebackers Pete Werner and Quentin Poling, defensive end Payton Turner, cornerbacks P.J.
Williams, Adonis Alexander and KeiVarae Russell, safety Marcus Williams and wide receiver Jalen McCleskey.

There was also a jersey change. Defensive tackle Albert Huggins is now No. 95, ditching the No. 60.

Jameis hits big; Taysom picked

Jameis Winston ran with the first team and looked his best in the 2nd drive of the day. He connected on all three passes and the big wow moment was when Winston connected with a streaking Deonte Harris up the sideline for a plus 40-yard touchdown on pretty play action. He would finish with 6 completions on 10 attempts in team drills.

Taysom Hill had a much rougher outing, going just 1 of 6. It was easily his worst day of camp thus far. Part of the blame goes to the pressure from the defense, but Hill’s timing and accuracy were off.

Lots to like on D-line

32-year-old Cam Jordan is the Black & Gold’s IRONMAN having never missed a game since being drafted 24th overall in 2011. His energy helps fuel this defensive front which seemed to constantly harass the quarterback today. Cam, Christian Ringo and Jalen Dalton would have registered sacks, while Carl Granderson, Noah Spence, Shy Tuttle and Tanoh Kpassagnon provided pressure and blew up a few runs.
