Saints defense in for biggest test against Chiefs dynamic duo

NFL, Chiefs
Mahomes, Kelce

Will week 15 between the 10-3 Saints and 12-1 Chiefs be a Super Bowl preview? Sadly for Who Dats, only 3,000 fans are permitted inside the Superdome Sunday to witness this must-see-TV match-up due to COVID restrictions.

New Orleans was close to selecting Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL draft, but KC jumped in front of them at #10 to select the Texas Tech QB. The Black & Gold would end up taking Ohio State CB Marshon Lattimore 11th overall.

“I think he does a good job processing quickly the information, the protections, he does a good job evaluating the rush lanes instinctively, climb and escape, outside and escape, climb and throw,” Sean Payton said about the 25-year-old Mahomes.  “But his arm strength, his awareness and then his ability to process and throw it are very rare."

Like the Saints, the Chiefs have a vast array of offensive weapons to impose their will on defenses. Mahomes security blanket is tight end Travis Kelce. The duo are always on the same page and have hooked up for 90 receptions for 1,250 yards and 9 TDs this season.

"One thing that you see with Travis that's very impressive is not only his athletic ability, his receiving ability, you see and feel a smart player,” explained Payton “You see a leverage guy who understands how to set up a block, how to setup a route. It's like he's constantly thinking and it's pretty impressive how smart he is."

The Saints defense is 4th best allowing 20.4 points per game, but haven't seen a machine like KC yet. The Chiefs offense is behind the Packers putting up 31 PPG.
