Colin Cowherd believes the Saints should trade for Baker Mayfield

Colin Cowherd has never had many good things to say about Baker Mayfield, but now the sports personality believes he has the right landing spot for the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

During Tuesday’s show on FS1, Cowherd suggested that Mayfield and the New Orleans Saints could be a perfect marriage.

Now, the Saints already have Jameis Winston who looked pretty good until he tore his ACL last year. But it’s that injury that has Cowherd thinking the Saints cannot depend on Winston.

“Number one: [The Saints] already moved Taysom Hill, I think smartly, out of the quarterback room. Number two: Nobody is really all-in on Jameis,” Cowherd said, outlining why Mayfield is a fit. “He’s always been, you know, Jameis. He went 7-9, [the Bucs] brought in [Tom] Brady, and won the Super Bowl. That was not a great day in [Winston’s] career. He has a lot doubters and now he is limping around.”

Cowherd’s final point was that the Saints are a team with a good defense in an easy, winnable division in the NFC South — one that will only get weaker once Brady finally leaves.

“Tom’s moving on,” Cowherd said. “If you acquire Baker Mayfield with that defense in a weak division with two other teams rebuilding, in one year Baker is the best quarterback.”

Cowherd also discovered that Mayfield’s first few seasons in the NFL are rather comparable to Drew Brees, although he managed to get some shots in as to make sure everyone knew he was not comparing the two.

“You didn’t know Drew Brees was great either until he was surrounded by really good o-lines and great defenses. You didn’t know he’d be that,” Cowherd said. “I don’t think Baker is as good a thrower as Drew Brees, I don’t think he’s quite as committed, or as focused, or as accurate but Baker could play. …Just something to think about.”
