Dolphins to sign Jason Pierre-Paul off Saints practice squad: report

The Jason Pierre-Paul era in New Orleans was short-lived, with the pass-rusher now headed to Miami.

The Dolphins are expected to sign the veteran DE off the Saints practice squad, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The poaching comes less than a week after JPP joined the team in New Orleans. He was elevated and played 17 snaps, logging 2 tackles in the Week 12 loss to the Falcons. Pierre-Paul is a South Florida native, playing in college at USF and spending multiple seasons as a member of the Tampa Bay Bucs.

The Dolphins were in need of help at the position after outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips went down with a season-ending achilles injury during a win over the Jets on Friday.

It's unknown whether the Saints made an offer to retain JPP, but it's another blow to the team's depth with several key players, including defensive end Cam Jordan, battling injury.

The Saints host the Detroit Lions in Week 12.
