Is it the golden era of football in south Louisiana? That might be a stretch, but between LSU, Tulane and the Saints, this might be a history-making season.
That's what the Cajun Cannon broke down on WWL Radio this week, as he predicts double-digit wins for each of the Saints, Tulane and LSU. Such a feat has never happened before in the long history of those teams.
“A lot of promise all across the board all in one season," Hebert said.
The Green Wave have continued their winning ways under head coach Willie Fritz, with a 2-1 start that featured its lone loss to Ole Miss in a competitive game. If they finished with double-digit wins this season, it'd be the first time they did that in back-to-back seasons in 118 years.
On LSU's side, they bounced back from a frustrating loss to Florida State in their opener with dominating wins over Grambling State and Mississippi State.
But the onus is on the Saints, the missing link last year, to get the job done. So far the returns are good, with a 2-0 start -- the first time they've gotten out of the gates with back-to-back wins since 2013.
They're getting there this season, the Cannon projects, and history is on their side. The last four times the Saints started 2-0, they reached the postseason. The 2023 season will make it 5-for-5.
"I’m telling you, so it’s going to make it 5-0, we’re going to the postseason," Hebert said. "I don’t know if we’re going to win anything, but we are going to be relevant.”
The Saints' next chance to take a step closer to the postseason comes Sunday in Green Bay. Meanwhile LSU faces down Arkansas, and Tulane hosts Nicholls State.
It's a good time to be a football fan in South Louisiana.
