It's back! Saints unveil the return of gold, alternate jersey

As the New Orleans Saints turn to a new head coaching era this week, they've continued the trend of bringing in new -- and old -- looks for the fans as that happens.

This time it's the return of the gold alternate jerseys, which the team officially announced Tuesday morning with a simple message: "What's gold is new again."

The video features veteran defensive end Cam Jordan carrying in a gold bag before the unveiling, fitting considering that he was among the loudest voices calling for the return of the gold jerseys. Until this point it was an odd footnote in Saints history, with the team wearing gold jerseys just once against the Vikings in the 2002 season. The Saints led by a touchdown into the final 30 seconds of that game, but lost 32-31 after a successful Minnesota 2-point conversion.

The gold on this version appears a bit more muted than the 2002 design, which was worn along with the traditional gold helmet and black pants.

The hype video for the new jerseys showed multiple Saints players wearing their new threads along with the black alternate helmet, which to this point has been worn primarily with the all-white color rush jersey combination, and black pants.

The new jersey will join an alternate white helmet, announced earlier this offseason, in the rotation. The white helmet is expected to be worn exclusively with the color rush jerseys for this season.

There's been no official announcement as to when the new helmet and jerseys will make their respective debuts. The Saints kick off training camp this week for the 2025 season, and kick off their regular season at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Sept. 7.
