With the NFL not holding its traditional combine this year, the Reese’s Senior Bowl will be one of the few events where draft prospects will get a chance to impress scouts, in person, from the league’s 32 teams.

Several players with Louisiana ties impressed on Day 1 of Senior Bowl practice.

Here’s a quick look at some of the state’s standout from the first day:

Elijah Mitchell, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette: Mitchell broke off some long runs in the team drills, even despite the fact that there wasn’t living tackling. The Ragin’ Cajuns ball carrier averaged 6.2 yards per carry during his four-year career in Lafayette and Tuesday’s performance showed why.

Jabril Cox, LB, LSU: Cox didn’t have as many wow plays as Mitchell but seemed to be consistently near the ball during drills. He was in on several run stops as well as passing game coverage. Cox showed he had a knack for finding the ball in his lone season with the Tigers as he collected three interceptions and a fumble recovery to go with his 58 total tackles.

Cam Sample, DL, Tulane: The defensive end had a very impressive play in one-on-ones where he showed impressive speed off the edge. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound lineman had six sacks last season for the Green Wave.
