The days of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans have been numbered for some time with a sponsorship deal expiring after the 2020 season, and today the letters themselves have been removed.

Workers could be seen pulling down the large lettering that spelled out the name of the German car manufacturer outside the Poydras Street wall of the dome on Thursday, one of the more visible signs of renovation work that has been underway much of the offseason.

The naming rights deal for the Superdome expired in July, with Caesars expected to gain those rights for a new title on the iconic Saints facility.

The building first opened in 1975 as the Louisiana Superdome, and became the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in 2011. The new, official name and style for the exterior of the dome has not yet been announced.

Reports have indicated the new deal, like the one with Mercedes, would likely span another two decades.
