MGM bettor wins massive $775K payday on Saints’ Sunday night win

One unnamed Vegas bettor got a whole lot wealthier Sunday night.

Despite downing the Bucs in relatively crisp fashion in Week 1, handicappers apparently didn’t have much faith in New Orleans, pegging the Saints as road dogs for Sunday night’s rematch in Tampa. One bettor in Sin City wasn’t buying that flawed logic, however, hammering the Saints to win outright at MGM. Whoever placed this ambitious bet wasn’t messing around, going all in with an aggressive $500,000 wager.

Betting on Canton-bound Tom Brady to fail at anything is an inherently risky endeavor, but it paid off handsomely in this instance. Even with Chris Godwin back from injury and Antonio Brown making his Bucs debut, Tampa Bay had no answer for the Saints, falling to their division rival in humiliating fashion. Brady’s night from hell included three interceptions, his most in a regular-season contest since a four-pick disaster at Buffalo in 2011 (a game this humble RADIO.COM writer was in attendance for). Sunday’s 38-3 rout was so lopsided the Saints let scarcely-used backup Jameis Winston close it out against his former team.

The anonymous MGM bettor grabbed the Saints at steep +155 odds, resulting in a lavish, $775,000 windfall. Betting on New Orleans has proved profitable of late with the Saints capturing wins in each of their last five games. With Sunday’s triumph, the surging Saints find themselves firmly in the NFC South driver seat, leading the Bucs by a half-game in the standings while also holding the tiebreaker over Tampa by virtue of sweeping their season series.

If this bettor wants to let it ride by backing New Orleans again in Week 10, the Saints will be in the Big Easy to host the injury-ravaged Niners on Sunday. MGM hasn’t set odds for that game yet, though Westgate Sportsbook has already installed the Saints as decisive, 8.5-point home favorites.
