The New Orleans Saints had chances on Sunday, but they failed to pull out a win against the Arizona Cardinals. Self-inflicted wounds cost the new Saints, as penalties killed the offense's momentum, and missed tackles on defense resulted in two Arizona touchdowns.
One analyst says the Saints are very much a work in progress.
"Everybody wants a rebuild until they see it," Mike Detillier told WWL's Tommy Tucker. "You've got a lot of new guys on this team, and it's going to take them a little while to piece (it) together."
Detillier told WWL's Tommy Tucker that the Saints have to work with the players they have and work around the relative inexperience in some key positions.
"The sloppiness is still going to be there next week," Detillier said. "Because of the way you practice today and you don't practice as a unit, you don't have any games under you, the sloppiness is going to be there."
However, Detillier believes if the team can cut down on mistakes each week, the Saints will quickly become a winner.
"That's what you hope to see from this team: week-to-week improvement in play and focus," Detillier said.
