Taysom Hill earned a win in his first career start as he lead the Saints to a 24-9 win against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Hill completed 18 of 23 passes for 233 yards and rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.
He was aided by an outstanding performance from the Saints defense which sacked Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan eight times Sunday.
The Falcons scored first via a 28-yard field goal from Younghoe Koo to cap a seven-play 65-yard drive. The score was set up by a 46-yard completion from Matt Ryan to Calvin Ridley.
The Saints responded with just about 2:47 to play in first quarter, when Wil Lutz hit a 22-yard field goal that finished a nine-play, 66-yard drive.
The Falcons took a 6-3 lead on Koo’s 51-yard field goal with 13:56 to play in the second quarter that capped 10-play, 42-yard drive.
Atlanta added to the lead with another field goal, a 52-yarder from Koo, that stretched their lead to 9-3 with 4:31 to play in the second quarter.
The Saints retook the lead with 1:46 to play in the second quarter when Alvin Kamara found the end zone from three yards out to cap a seven-play, 80-yard drive. A key play on the drive was a 44-yard completion from Hill to Emmanuel Sanders.
New Orleans scored on its opening drive of the third quarter when Taysom Hill rushed for a touchdown on fourth-and-2. The score capped a 10-play, 80-yard drive.
Hill found the end zone again in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard scramble that capped a six-play, 53-yard drive and gave the Saints a 24-9 lead with 12:41 to play.
