Saints initial Week 4 injury report: Alvin Kamara, other key players miss opening practice

The New Orleans Saints have a long list of injuries heading into a Week 4 showdown with the Atlanta Falcons, and they're affecting several key names.

Center Erik McCoy has already been shifted to injured reserve, so he wasn't listed on the report and can't return for at least a month. The Saints were also without LB Demario Davis, RB Alvin Kamara, and RG Cesar Ruiz, all of whom were injured during the loss to the Eagles. Demario was in attendance for the session but was off to the side watching

Kamara's injury appeared to come late in the game against the Eagles when he took a big hit after a 9-yard run and was slow to get up. He stood on the sidelines for a play in clear discomfort before running off the field, but did return for the next play when Derek Carr found Chris Olave for a go-ahead touchdown. The Saints were also without Alontae Taylor in Wednesday, who was dealing with an illness.

Here's how the Saints' injury report stacked up on Wednesday:
LP = limited participant; FP = full participant; DNP = did not participate

- QB Derek Carr (left groin): FP
- TE Taysom Hill (chest): FP
- LB D'Marco Jackson (calf): LP
- DT Khalen Saunders (calf): LP
- OT Landon Young (foot): LP
- CB Alontae Taylor (illness): DNP
- LB Demario Davis (hamstring): DNP
- RB Alvin Kamara (hip/ribs): DNP
- RG Cesar Ruiz (knee): DNP

One surprise appearance is that of QB Derek Carr, who is dealing with a groin issue. He was only hit four times in the game but was under frequent pressure and did take a hard hit on his final pass of the day that went for an interception to seal the result.

The good news is in the form of TE Taysom Hill, who was a full participant after being limited a week ago and missing Week 3. Head coach Dennis Allen said he's hopeful that Taysom could return from the chest injury suffered during a Week 2 win over the Cowboys. DT Khalen Saunders also made his return to practice for the first time since suffering a calf injury late in camp.

The Falcons' half of the injury report is short, though they also placed their center Drew Dalman on IR. Otherwise there is only one name listed:

- OT Kaleb McGary (knee): DNP

The Saints (2-1) face off with the Falcons (1-2) at noon on Sunday in Atlanta. Catch all the action on WWL and Audacy.
