Drew Brees landed one of the first of what's surely many Hall of Fame nods this week. He'll be enshrined in the Louisiana HOF's Class of 2024.
The Saints legend was announced this week as a member of the nine-person class, a group that includes LSU and WNBA star Seimone Augustus, MMA star Deniel Cormier and Tulane basketball star Perry Clark.
THE NINE INDUCTEES
- Drew Brees, NFL
- Seimone Augustus, LSU/WNBA
- Daniel Cormier, MMA
- Perry Clark, Tulane basketball
- Kevin Jackson, wrestling/Olympic gold medalist
- Kerry Joseph, McNeese football
- Frank Monica, HS football coach (Lutcher/Riverside/Jesuit/St. Charles Catholic)
- Ray Sibile, jockey/Breeder's Cup
- Wilbert Ellis, Grambling football coach
The class will be inducted at the HOF in Natchitoches for the 65th induction celebration. The dates are yet to be announced.
A 40-member committee selected the inductees from a group of 149 across 28 sports.
Brees, of course, is best known for leading the Saints to their lone Super Bowl title during the 2009 season, and set a host of team and NFL records during a 15-year Saints career. Brees retired following the 2020 season and spent a short stint in broadcasting before pursuing other endeavors.
When eligible, Brees will be considered a shoo-in for the team Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and likely the ring of honor in the Caesars Superdome.
