The New Orleans Saints are midway through their OTA schedule but the roster tweaking hasn't stopped.
The team announced Wednesday afternoon it had signed fullback Jake Bargas and tight end Jesse James. The team waived depth kicker Alex Quevedo in a corresponding move. The moves bring the team the 90-man roster limit ahead of the bulk of the offseason schedule.
Bargas, 26, spent two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings from 2021-'22 appearing in a pair of games. He spent part of the 2022 season on the Dolphins practice squad.
James brings a much longer NFL resume spanning eight NFL seasons. James spent the first four years of his career with the Steelers after being selected in the 5th round of the 2015 NFL draft. He was productive in Pittsburgh, catching 120 passes for 1,1189 yards and 9 TDs. His past four seasons haven't matched up, however, as he's logged just 37 catches for 333 yards 3 TDs in the four seasons since, split between the Lions, Bears and Browns. James appeared in two games for the Browns in 2022 before being placed on injured reserve with a biceps injury.
James joins a suddenly crowded TE room along with Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill, Lucas Krull and Miller Forristall. James is listed at 6-7, 251 pounds and offers some blocking upside should he ultimately latch on with the team.
Bargas joins Adam Prentice in the fullback group.
