Saints still an estimated $48 million over NFL's salary cap, more moves expected

The NFL’s salary cap has been set at $182.5 million.

Per Sporttrac, the Saints adjusted cap number is roughly $185.5 million and that same site has the Saints at roughly $233 million in total salary meaning the Saints are still about $48 million over the cap.

The number factors in the moves already made by the Saints including freeing up $6 million and $3.4 million by restructuring the contracts of offensive lineman Andrus Peat and safety Malcolm Jenkins, respectively.

The Saints created over $13 million in cap room by restructuring linebacker Demario Davis and Cam Jordan’s contracts last week.

New Orleans earlier this year created more cap space with kicker Wil Lutz, defensive tackle David Onyemata and quarterback Drew Brees restructuring their contracts and the Saints have released punter Thomas Morstead, tight end Josh Hill, offensive lineman Nick Easton.

The Saints are also expected to release linebacker Kwon Alexander who is recovering from an achilles injury, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The moves will created another $13 million in cap space.
