Saints to hire Kris Richard as secondary coach, report says

The Saints are set to bring in former Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys assistant Kris Richard as the team’s next secondary coach, according to a report from the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Richard will replace Aaron Glenn who left to become the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator.

The USC alum has had great success coaching secondaries in the NFL before as he was the Seahawks defensive backs coach from 2010 to 2015, which most fans recall as the “Legion of Boom” era. From 2012-15, Seattle allowed the fewest points in the NFL for four straight seasons.

Richard also served as the Cowboy’s defensive backs coach from 2018-19.

His reported hiring marks the first replacement on the Saints staff that’s seen a lot of turnover since being eliminated from the playoffs.

The Saints lost Glenn and former tight ends coach Dan Campbell, who’s become the Lions head coach, as well as quarterbacks coach Joe Lombardi who’ll be the Los Angeles Chargers next offensive coordinator.
