After an “emotional week,” Taysom Hill said he was glad to to help the Saints pick up a 24-9 win against the Atlanta Flacons in his first career start.
“We spent a lot of time reflecting,” Hill said of the week leading up Sunday’s matchup. “And then to be able to come out and get a win in my first start, was gratifying more than anything.
“Man, I have so much love and respect for Drew (Brees) and my other teammates, that I wanted to make sure that I did my part to help us continue to win.”
Hill started in place of Brees who was placed on injured reserve after fracturing several ribs in the Saints win against the San Francisco 49ers last week.
He completed 18 of 23 passes for 233 yards and rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns as he helped the Saints earn a victory and his teammates were impressed with his performance.
“He knew his number was being called. He went out there and he did his thing and I am just proud of him,” Saints receiver Michael Thomas said. “And I can't wait to see what he does next week, because he is just going to keep improving. He’s a football player with a lot of discipline. And he loves the game and I love playing with him.”
Hill said he was overall happy with his performance in the win but was felt there were a few things he could improve.
He pointed to a late fumble as his main misstep and also said he missed a few throws.
“I think that those things are easy to fix. But overall, without looking at the film and really breaking everything down, I was happy with the way that I played,” Hill said. “I was happy with the way that my teammates played. And man, it was a collective effort to get this win.”
