Ed Orgeron said Wednesday that freshman quarterback TJ Finley will likely start for the Tigers Saturday when LSU travels to face Arkansas at 11 a.m.
“We’re not going to make the decision until later in the week but it looks like it’s going to be him because Max was out with the quarantine so he hasn’t been at practice,” Orgeron said. “Yesterday was his first day of practice.”
Johnson was one of several players that was out last week due to contact tracing as the Tigers dealt with positive COVID-19 tests within the program. LSU was forced to postpone its scheduled matchup with Alabama due to not having enough scholarship players available.
Orgeron said most of the teams was back at practice Tuesday.
“Our guys are ready to play,” he said. “We have most of our team back. We had a great practice yesterday and I look forward to having a great practice today.”
The Tigers also saw the return of offensive lineman Dare Rosenthal who Orgeron said was reinstated after being suspended indefinitely earlier this season.
Orgeron also said that the team hasn’t made a final decision on the status of starting quarterback Myles Brennan.
“Not yet I talked to jack yesterday we’re still trying we still haven’t made a decision he made a little progress this week he hasn’t practiced yet I think he’s going to try to practice one time this week its doesn’t look like he’s going to play but the final design ha snot been made and the decision to go ahead operate has not been made yet
Brennan hasn’t practiced since suffering a lower body injury in LSU’s Week 3 loss to Missouri.
“We still haven’t made a decision,” Orgeron said. “He made a little progress this week, he hasn’t practiced yet. I think he’s going to try to practice one time this week. It doesn’t look like he’s going to play but the final decision has not been made and the decision to go ahead operate has not been made yet.”
