Sports Talk on WWL Radio just got bigger.

Mike Detillier, college and pro football analyst, will officially join Bobby Hebert and Kristian Garic on Sports Talk Monday through Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m., the first time since the show’s inception it’s taken on a three-man lineup.

Said Detillier: “I’m thrilled to join Bobby and Kristian. It’s an honor and a privilege to have a role on this iconic radio station. I already feel like part of the family because I have been part of the WWL team for so many years, but now it’s official and full-time.”

Scroll below for five of the top quotes from Detillier's full-time debut on Wednesday.

DETILLIER: “I think Buddy D is smiling in heaven"

Detillier prides himself on being mentored by WWL legendary sports talk host, Buddy Diliberto.

"I truly believe he may have a hand in this. Buddy was not just someone I worked with, but a close friend and he always told me one day you are going to be one of the centerpieces for the station. So, I know somewhere he is watching and enjoying this moment with me, my family and friends. SportsTalk will continue to be THE place where sports fans congregate, for informative guests, fan interaction, plus great conversation and honest debate. Bobby, Kristian and I don’t have to agree on everything, but we respect each other’s opinions. It’s what SportsTalk is all about.”

...

"I will approach this next step of my career in sports as I have the past decades, using the words of Buddy Diliberto as my guide: 'Never be afraid to be wrong, give the best opinion you have based on experience, facts and thinking things through. But you are not always going to be right, and admit it when you are wrong. People respect that.' ”

HEBERT: 'Two Cajuns & a Marine'

“Two Cajuns and a Marine, it’s the perfect combination for sports fans in the Gulf South. I’m the 14-year pro and former Saints quarterback, Mike is the researcher and scout with deep connections in college, the pros, even high school, and Kristian is the Marine and Saints insider with strong opinions, who gets to hold the reins.”

DETILLIER: 'My hair had color and I had a size 32-waist'

Mike Detillier’s first appearance on WWL Radio was as a guest of New Orleans original outspoken and passionate Sports Talk host, Hap Glaudi, back in 1983.

“I was a real young man then, my hair had color and I had a size 32-waist,” said Detillier. “Hap was a big part of my growth in the sports world. I have been involved in other businesses and through the years had other opportunities in business and sports, but to be a part of the Sports Talk team on the Big-870 is what dreams are made of. There’s nothing better than talking sports with fans.”

...

“I remember as a kid my Mom putting on WWL Radio so my brother and I could hear jazz music middays and listening to the early years of the Saints on WWL Radio. I remember listening to LSU games at night from Tiger Stadium," Detillier said. "And now I’m part of this legendary station full-time. It’s humbling and amazing."

And while some of the people from the earlier stages of his career are, as he puts it "listening to the big radio in the sky," he's got a good idea of where to start in his new role.

HEBERT: How the Cajun connection got started

“Mike and I, the first time we actually did a show together — and Mike and I have been doing shows now 17 years. It was 2004 and the draft, they flew me into town. Because Buddy says, ‘I’m getting older, I want you to help me with the draft, with training camp. I just want you to help me out.’ Not doing SportsTalk everyday, just kinda, you know, the draft, training camp and Mike being involved with ‘Second Guess’ and all that. But lo and behold, God rest his soul, obviously Buddy D passed away. And that’s how Mike and I came together doing draft shows."
