Taysom Hill returned to practice this week for the first time since a concussion suffered in Week 5, but it appears Trevor Siemian will get the first shot at replacing Jameis Winston as the Saints' starting quarterback.
The veteran who took over in the Saints' win over the Bucs is expected to be named the starting quarterback for the Week 9 matchup with Atlanta, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. No announcement has yet been made by the team.

The decision either way will mark the third time in as many seasons Saints coaches had to weight their starting QB options mid-season. In 2019 Teddy Bridgewater landed the job for five games with Brees out with a thumb injury. In 2020 it was Hill starting ahead of Winston. Hill's lack of practice time the past few weeks could be a factor in the decision. He got back in a limited capacity Wednesday, but was a full participant Thursday, indicating he has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol.
Despite Winston's ACL tear and the news the past two weeks that neither kicker Wil lutz or star receiver Michael Thomas will return this year after setbacks, New Orleans sits at 5-2, just a half game out of the NFC South lead, and 1.5 games behind the top record in the NFC.
