There’ve been multiple reports that this might be Drew Brees’ last season in the NFL and a prominent Louisiana native took to Twitter Thursday to offer his opinion on where the Saints should look for their next quarterback.
Kansas City Chiefs defensive back and former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu suggested that the New Orleans Saints, along with the San Francisco 49ers and Chicago Bears should be one of the teams that “all in” on the rumors that Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson is debating a trade request.
The 25-year old former Clemson star has spent his four-year career with the Texans and after leading the franchise to an 11-5 and 10-6 record in his first two seasons as a full-time starter, just posted career-best numbers in the franchise’s 4-12 season.
Watson completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 4,823 yards and 33 touchdowns. Aside from the record the Texans, don’t appear to be matching their young star’s ascension. The franchise fired head coach Bill O’Brien who in the offseason traded All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins for running back who tallied 1,005 total scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games this season.
The franchise also recently hired a new general manager Nick Caserio and many national pundits believe Watson was not a fan of the organizations moves and suggested his tweet ”some things never change” was related to them.
The Saints currently only have back up quarterback Taysom Hill committed to the franchise beyond the 2020 season although head coach Sean Payton has mentioned often that the team has been impressed with backup Jameis Winston.
