The Philadelphia Phillies continued their improbable postseason run on Sunday with a thrilling Game 5 win over the San Diego Padres to win the National League pennant and trip to the World Series.
Bryce Harper, named NLCS MVP, delivered the go-ahead home run in the eighth inning to lift the Phils to a 4-3 victory and first World Series appearance since 2009.

The Phillies — who had a losing record in June and fired manager Joe Girardi and replaced him with bench coach Rob Thomson — entered the playoffs after finishing third in the NL East and worst record of any of the playoff teams.
But under the new format the Phillies got in, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in two games in the wild-card round and knocking out division rival Atlanta Braves in four games in the NLDS.
Clinching the NL pennant in dramatic fashion on Sunday had social media buzzing — from our own radio hosts and writers — to fans and the rest of the baseball world amazed by the underdog story of the Phillies.
