The outlook for a rebound in travel this year has dimmed after the global pandemic ravaged the industry and hurt tourism-dependent economies, with travelers postponing plans amid vaccine delays and border restrictions. In the U.S., the demand for hotels isn’t forecast to return to 2019 levels until 2023, with room prices not fully recovering until 2025. Gross travel bookings in the U.S., including hotels, air tickets and car rentals, are expected to still be below 2019 levels in 2024.
Publix is joining a growing list of grocers and retailers offering incentives to workers who get the Covid-19 vaccine. The supermarket chain is offering its employees $125 gift cards when they sign up and show proof of vaccination. While more and more employers are offering similar incentives, vaccine distribution and eligibility continues to vary across the country. Most of the more than 2.4 million low-wage grocery workers in the U.S. have not yet been made eligible for the vaccine.
