Louisiana gas prices continue to drop slowly, especially for the price of regular which has dropped just below $3 a gallon in some location.

AAA spokesman, Nick Chabarria, says in past days crude oil prices have been rising upwards of $5 a barrel a day, but that's not adversely impacted the price of fuel at the pump.

In fact, Chabarria says the average price of regular fell about 11 cents a gallon over the previous week. He calls that "welcome relief" for motorists.

He says oil has been pushed higher, "largely in response to the conflict with Israel and Palestine," although he says, "those two countries are not major oil producers."

But, Chabarria says the oil price situation is in apparent concern about Israel/Palestine conflict and where it may spread and what impact it could have on oil prices.

He says the main factors pushing gas prices lower are both a drop in demand nationwide and schools starting up again after the summer travel season.

A gallon of regular octane gas in New Orleans costs on average $3.18 today, according to AAA's daily survey. That is down nearly 10 cents a gallon since last week, and 23 cents per gallon cheaper than last month.

A year ago, gas cost nearly $3.39 a gallon.
