Investment in cleaner energy is on the verge of overtaking spending on fossil fuels for the first time ever after topping a record $1 trillion last year. Research group BloombergNEF says its findings indicate that investment in clean-energy technologies is on the brink of overtaking fossil-fuel investments, and “won’t look back”. Investment in renewables, nuclear, zero-emission vehicles or recycling projects totaled $1.1 trillion last year, matching spending on fossil fuels. Global green spending was up more than 30% from 2021.
Nothing quite like a hit show to revive an old song. Streaming of Linda Ronstadt’s 1970 single “Long Long Time” on Spotify has spiked nearly 5,000% after being used in the most recent episode of HBO’s “The Last of Us.” The song is also getting new life on TikTok, where viewers have used the tune as the backdrop to weepy reaction videos or in tributes to the show.
Futures are mixed after stocks posted strong gains yesterday. The Dow Industrials rose 369, the Nasdaq added 190 and the S&P 500 was up 58.
