Coldest weather of the season yet coming

Cold

Get ready for much colder conditions.

WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford says a big cool down is on the way for the coming week.

"A freeze watch is in effect from Monday at 10 p.m. until Tuesday at 8 a.m. for areas north of the lake and in Lafourche, Terrebonne, St. John and St. James parishes."

She says the change is already starting with cooler and windy weather and temperatures falling into the 50s Sunday night.

"Colder air surges in overnight and during the day Monday," Cranford said. "We'll start Monday cold and windy in the 40s."

The high temperature Monday is expected to only be around 54 degrees.

"Monday night will bring the coldest weather we've had since early February. Look for lows in the New Orleans metro area near 37 degrees with patchy frost. A light freeze is expected north of the lake and away from the city where lows will be upper 20s to around 30 degrees."

The meteorologist advises protecting plants and pets on both sides of the lake Monday night into Tuesday morning.
