AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush said Wednesday he will run for the attorney general's office, setting up a primary challenge against fellow Republican Ken Paxton, who is considered one of the most high-profile GOP AGs in the country.
"I am proud to announce I am a Republican candidate to be the next Texas Attorney General," Bush said at a campaign launch event in downtown Austin Wednesday night.
The move caps months of speculation and signals from the grandson of former President George H.W. Bush and son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who has served as the state's land commissioner since 2015.
"Enough is enough, Ken," Bush said, highlighting scandals that have plagued Paxton since he took office. "You've brought way too much scandal and too little integrity to this office. As a career politician for 20 years, it's time for you to go."

Paxton has faced a number of challenges while in office, including a 2015 indictment on felony securities fraud charges, and a 2020 FBI investigation into accusations of abuse of office, bribery, and other offenses from top aides. Paxton has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Notably, Bush is the son of former two-term Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the nephew of former President George W. Bush and the grandson of the late former President George H.W. Bush. He's running as a supporter of former President Donald Trump, despite the heated feud between Trump and the Bush families.
