RASH OF SUNDAY ROBBERIES IN NEW ORLEANS CONTINUES INTO MONDAY

To say crime is a huge concern in the city of New Orleans may be the biggest understatement ever. But what’s being done about it? What CAN be done about it?

Every Tuesday morning, Dr. Peter Scharf, Adjunct Professor and Criminologist at LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health, joins us to talk about crime in the city. He has some interesting insights but the public is growing tired of talk and long-term solutions.

So, I’ve decided to ask Dr. Scharf every week what’s specifically happened between our weekly chats to reduce violent crime in our city. That’s important because if NOTHING changes from week to week any reasonable person would have to presume the new norm in New Orleans is what’s happening NOW.

As far as I could determine, the answer to “has anything changed in the past week to reduce violent crime in the city?” was NO. That is in no way a reflection on Dr. Scharf or his abilities. It’s his analysis, as a man who’s studied crime as his life’s work, of where we are.

Scharf made some interesting points during his analysis of how we got here. He said we lacked adequate manpower, strategy and technology; and, as a result, crime has risen…and will continue to rise.

Listen to what Dr. Scharf had to say and see if you can find any good news.
