Rash of Sunday robberies in New Orleans continues into Monday

Beat over the head, held up at gunpoint, carjacked and robbed... it happened over and over again from the French Quarter to the CBD and Mid City to Uptown all day Sunday and into Monday morning in New Orleans.

A 56-year-old man walking down Burgundy Street was hit over the head around 7:30 Sunday morning.


An initial police reports says, "Victim struck to back of head. He fell to ground and suspect removed victim's wallet from his pocket. Suspect fled."

That was in the 900 block of Burgundy, about two blocks off Bourbon Street.

Just before 1:00pm there was a similar attack a few blocks away on Esplanade near Burgundy.  This time the victim was a 61-year-old woman.

"Suspect approached victim and knocked her to the ground. He then went into her pant pockets and removed her wallet and cellphone. Suspect left, returned and took additional items."

Just after 12:30 Sunday afternoon a 30-year-old woman was robbed. It happened in the 2400 block of Bell St. off Esplanade and N. Rocheblave.

"Victim sitting on bench when subject drove by. Subject exited and approached victim asking for change. After victim declined, subject snatched her purse and fled."

An hour later in mid city there was a similar robbery.

"Suspect exited vehicle and snatched victim's purse off bench. Suspect fled."

That was in the 3600 block of Iberville Street.  The victim was a 37-year-old woman.

Sunday night around 10:20pm an 18-year-old woman robbed near the corner of Baronne and Girod in the CBD. She fought back.

"Suspects exited vehicle and asked for cigarette. Victim stated she didn't have one. One subject grabbed victim’s purse and fled. Victim gave chase and took her purse back. Victims fled."

Baronne and Julia street was the scene of another robbery.  This one happened around 10:45pm Sunday.

A 47-year-old woman was robbed.

"Victim approached by one suspect. Suspect grabbed her purse from her shoulder and fled."

Less than half an hour later, a man was carjacked at a gas station on Claiborne near Louisiana Avenue.

"Victim at gas station when one suspect physically assaulted him, took victim’s keys and then fled in victim's white Subaru Outback with personalized Pennsylvania license plate."

An hour later another man was hit over the head and robbed on Claiborne near Louisiana Ave.

" Suspect struck victim in back of head with unknown object. Suspect took victim's backpack containing books and iPad. All suspects fled."

Just before 2:00am, there was an armed robbery in the 300 block of Canal Street.  Police say two women held up a 24-year-old man,

"Suspects approached victim, one produced handgun and demanded property. Victim complied. Suspects fled."

Early Monday morning a 23-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint on Magazine Street between Canal and Poydras.

"Suspect produced handgun, pointed it at victim's chest and demanded cash. Victim complied. Suspect fled."

That happened just after 5:12am

In all 12 people were robbed from Sunday morning through Monday morning.
