A flat tire led New Orleans Police to the suspect in a deadly hit-and-run accident that happened Tuesday evening in Gentilly.

According to NOPD, a disabled vehicle spotted along I-10 near the Crowder Blvd. exit Wednesday afternoon matched the description of the one involved in the crash at Franklin and Filmore avenues. Officers arrived to find two individuals replacing a flat tire on the SUV.

Police say investigators confirmed the vehicle as the one from the fatal hit-and-run, and said the driver, identified as 35-year-old Bryan C. Mitchell Sr., matched the description given of the driver involved in the crash.

According to police, Mitchell admitted he was the driver in the hit-and-run during questioning. Police say the vehicle was reported stolen.

Police booked Mitchell on one count each of hit-and-run driving resulting in death and for possession of a stolen vehicle. Cops also booked Mitchell on multiple fugitive warrants.
